The Ramble

The Ramble
This is a partial view of the "Hers" master closet I designed for one of my favorite homes in The Ramble in Asheville NC. Dawn Carlton was the interior designer, and Carlton Architecture designed this most unique and beautiful home.

"Some people dream of having a big swimming pool... with me, it's closets." -Audrey Hepburn

I confess:  I'm passionate about closets.  Well-designed, efficient, and therefore, beautiful closets.  Organized closets.  A place for everything and everything in its place closets.  Closets with seemingly miles of hanging space.  Closets with shelves and baskets and drawers... oh my!  Closets with slanted shelves for shoes, and cubbies to stack sweaters and sweats neatly.  Closets with a granite or custom cement topped island.  Closets in haberdashery-style cherry or mahogany veneer with wood framed seeded glass doors, fluted and crown molding, and rosettes.  Simple but elegant closets in modern, crisp, white melamine.  (Are you getting a visual here?  Have you started salivating yet?) Or, my personal fantasy, for my someday dream home here in Asheville NC, contemporary maple "Pure Bond" veneer cabinetry with frosted glass drawer and door fronts framed in brushed aluminum, and a hand-blown Chihuly-style or custom sea glass chandelier illuminating it all.  I'm passionate about the space you use several times a day. The space that can even set the tone for your day!  I'm excited about sharing my passion with you, which is what this blog is all about.  Enjoy!

  1. After buying my house which was built in 1927, I wondered if anything could be done with my tiny closets to give me more space. That is when I called Barbara. I almost cried when I saw the finished product. She was able to transform my tiny closets into a beautiful area which was organized and spacious. I could hardly believe my eyes. I would recommend Barbara to anyone who is looking to transform an already existing space or to anyone who is building a new home. She puts her heart and soul into her work which is felt and seen in the finished product.

  2. I moved into a new house in Asheville, NC, with 1 long row of wire hanging space. Barbara came in and designed a wonderful closet just for me. She asked questions about the kind of clothes I wear and made sure the hanging space and shelves accommodated my needs. I'm getting ready to sell my house and the closet is one of the biggest selling points. It's beautiful and it will be easy for the new owner to reconfigure to their own needs. Not only is Barbara an excellent designer, she's fun to work with! I would recommend her to anyone!
